Unless I was in an upscale place in the USA, I didn’t feel safe at night. I consider the States to be far more dangerous then the Philippines. What is really terrible, is I would hate to be black living in the states. That is not a racist statement, it is the truth, so for blacks, the most dangerous country on the planet I would say is the USA.
While this is a famous tourist spot in Siargao, it doesn’t get too crowded as the other lagoons in the country. You won’t have the lagoon to yourselves by any means but it’s big enough to find your own piece of paradise to chill, take photos, and hang out. Mostly what corners to slow down before entering and what were the accessible beaches and items of interest to view like churches. My wife is a Philippine born Canadian and as such is a devout Catholic. I am a Anglo Saxon descendant, generations old naturally born Canadian but to the people of the Philippines we are both foreigners. That is what you need to remember if you are traveling with a Philippa who lives abroad. She will be identified as a foreigner so don’t count on that to protect you.
If you love her enough to make a lifetime commitment to her, wouldn’t you do anything it takes to be with her? In my thinking, if you wouldn’t, you don’t really love her. Follow the advise of others on this site of where to go and what to do and what not do. Meet her and marry her somewhere else in the Philippines if you don’t feel safe. You have given her a hope and a dream and made her fall in love with you then want to walk away.
- Composed of more than 7000 islands, the Philippine archipelagic state was a political creation of Western colonizers.
- They might well have been referring to the geographical distance of the country from mainland Asia.

- The formation of a bigger nation state composed of the Philippine Islands, Taiwan and parts of Malaysia and Indonesia could have been another possibility.

Patrick said 4 years agoWorld Nomads lists Iligan City as unsafe for travelers. I was in Iligan City for a week because my wife is from there.
If a mestizo (de sangley or español) married a filipina , she would lose her status as a ‘filipina’ and would acquire the legal status of her husband and become a mestiza de español or sangley. If a ‘filipina’ married an ‘indio’, her legal status would change to ‘India’, despite being of pure Spanish descent. People classified as ‘blancos’ were the insulares or “Filipinos” , peninsulares , Español mestizos , and tornatrás .

I’m staying for a week and would like to know what to expect when I arrive. I try not to look at the dark side of things but the killings hasn’t ceased. Nevertheless something deep inside of me is saying I have to go.
Former Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte won the 2016 presidential election, becoming the first president from Mindanao. Duterte launched an intensified anti-drug campaign, and a massive infrastructure plan. The implementation of the Bangsamoro Organic Law led to the creation of the autonomous Bangsamoro region in Mindanao. In the 19th century, Philippine ports opened to world trade and shifts started occurring within Filipino society. Many Spaniards born in the Philippines and those of mixed ancestry were wealthy, and an influx of Hispanic American immigrants opened up government positions traditionally held by Spaniards born in the Iberian Peninsula.
Other hypotheses have also been put forward based on linguistic, archeological, and genetic studies. The social stratification system based on class that continues to this day in the country had its beginnings in the Spanish colonial area with a discriminating caste system. However, a ‘mestiza de sangley’ who married a blanco (‘Filipino’, ‘mestizo de español’, ‘peninsular’, or ‘americano’) kept her status as ‘mestiza de sangley’. An ‘India’ who married a blanco also kept her status as India, but her children were classified as mestizo de español.
commander BS said 4 years agoI havelived in Phil for 3 years. I am looking to leave Mindanao as I cosider the threat as increasing due to British and American activities in the middle east pissing everyone off. Politics here is all about headlines and I dont want to be a headline. U am always very polite but am always aware of the underlying dislike that most males have for foreigners in general. Sad as it is the truth is we are tolerated because we have more money and the Phil people want it.
Personally I prefer Cagayan, however I am never oblivious to the dangers, I am almost always armed, I do not spend too much time is crowded popular places and do not stray too far into Moslem areas. I used to spend a lot of time in Iligan but have reduced this to infrequent visits, an increasing moslem population and too close to Marawi for my liking.
The ancient races became homogenized into the Malayo-Polynesians which colonized the majority of the Philippine, Malaysian and Indonesian archipelagos. The Negritos are likely descendants of the indigenous populations of the Sunda landmass and New Guinea, pre-dating the Mongoloid peoples who later entered Southeast Asia. Multiple studies also show that Negritos from Southeast Asia to New Guinea share a closer cranial affinity with Australo-Melanesians. They were the ancestors of such tribes of the Philippines as the Aeta, Agta, Ayta, Ati, Dumagat and other similar groups. Today they comprise just 0.03% of the total Philippine population.
i’d suggest to tourists to watch out for their belongings & cash ’cause local people are like wolves here, no matter the place & time. Took us 10 years to get to El Nido, because well life happened I guess, but I have nothing but great things to say. David said 3 years agoCurrently writing this on my way home back to the States from El Nido. It was a joy (sarcasim!) receiving the State Depts tourism travel advisory just as we were boarding our plane to Manilia to start our vacation. As many many other people already said and I’ll echo Shirley, tourism, violence, and crime is everywhere.
